About Calmspace
Calmspace
is the creation of Maureen O’Callaghan, a respected
stress management consultant with over 25 years
experience working with private, public, voluntary and
community organisations, and within the education,
retail, media, manufacturing and finance sectors.
During her career Maureen has worked in a variety of
roles including practitioner, project manager, team
leader, director of operations, fundraiser, trainer,
mentor, coach, consultant and researcher.
Maureen has significant expertise in working with
organisations working with young people and young
people themselves, including those with
disabilities, mental health problems or exhibiting
challenging behaviour.
How we Work
Calmspace recognises that every organisation is unique, so provide a free initial consultation to gain a clear understanding of challenges and objectives in order to develop a detailed proposal prior to commencement which may include some or all of these components:
- Communicate process and objectives to employees
- Gain commitment from senior managers
- Gather and analyse data to identify causes and effects
- Provide detailed recommendations/action plan
- Design, manage and implement a realistic action plan

Experience within the Voluntary Sector
Maureen has worked within the voluntary sector for over 20 years during which time she has worked in a variety of roles including Head of Youth and Schools for the British Red Cross, Area Fundraising Manager and Youth Education Officer for Save the Children and Head of Fundraising for UK Youth. Maureen has also held positions on the boards of a number of local and national voluntary organisations.
Experience with Young People
Maureen has been working with young
people for over 20 years during which
she has worked in a variety of roles
including Head of Youth and Schools for
the British Red Cross, Youth Education
Officer for Save the Children and Head
of Fundraising for UK Youth. Prior to
this she worked as a social worker,
youth worker and within schools,
spending a significant amount of time
working with challenging young people
and young offenders. She is now a
consultant and researcher working for
organisations such as NIACE, The
National Youth Agency and Children’s
Workforce Development Council.
Previous research
projects have included:-
- Developing models of good practice in the areas of befriending, youth participation, social action, global citizenship and employer engagement
- Barriers to learning experienced by young people
- Skills young people develop through volunteering
- Teacher stress within schools and FE Colleges
- Young people’s oracy skills and employability
- Numeracy and literacy skills within informal educations settings
- Young people and financial management.
